The National Lotteries Commission has purportedly been advocating for the online sales and purchase of lottery tickets during South Africa’s lockdown, which one can easily see in action via a quick scan through the website of national lottery Ithuba.
As a result, there has been a sort of muffled and confused response from government who, according to a recent article by the CitizenĀ have stated that the lottery is not an essential service.
“The lottery is not classified as an essential service and tickets may not be sold during the Covid-19 lockdown, Trade and Industry Minister Ebrahim Patel said during a media briefing on Saturday, ” the Citizen read.
However, despite the response, the South African National Lottery shows no signs of slowing down its online sales, whilst retail terminals still remain inaccessible to the public.
